The Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) is soliciting workshop proposals from Healing to Wellness Court practitioners, training and technical assistance providers, researchers, scholars and field experts.
You are invited to submit a workshop proposal to present at the 2025 Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Implementation and Enhancement Training. Share your expertise and research with the Wellness Court field that presents the best practices in tribal justice, collaboration, and service delivery that enhance the capacity for adult, family, veterans, and DUI/DWI Healing to Wellness Courts.
TLPI encourages proposals that detail innovative practices; specific how-to guidance; the integration of customs and tradition into the Wellness Court; screenings, assessment tools, and evidence-based practices that serve Native populations; planning guidance; and law enforcement/probation. Workshop proposals should fall into one of four tracks:
- Adult Healing to Wellness Courts
- Family Healing to Wellness Courts/Youth Healing to Wellness Courts
- Healing to Wellness Courts in Jurisdictions where Closer Tribal/State Collaboration is Needed. Topics might include:
- Public Law 280 and similar Jurisdictional Challenges
- Alaska Native Healing to Wellness Courts
- County/Tribal Collaboration
- Joint Jurisdiction Courts
- Emerging Issues in Healing to Wellness Courts. Topics might include:
- Veterans’ Treatment Courts
- Trauma Informed practices
- Opioids/Fentanyl/Etc.
- Wellness Court Data and evaluations
- Violent offenders
- Mental Health Courts
Please keep in mind the administration’s Justice Department priorities (see below) when responding to this Call for Presentations.
- Supporting law enforcement operations and personnel
- Promoting public safety
- Addressing the impact of fentanyl and other drug trafficking
- Protecting law enforcement
Selection Criteria Workshop proposals will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Relevance to the field
- Engaging format
- Subject-matter expertise and training experience of the presenters
- Quality of supplemental materials
Additional Workshop Details:
- Workshops will be 1.25 hours (75 minutes)
- Workshops can have 1-3 presenters
- All materials will be posted on the conference website and app for attendees to access during, and subsequent to, the training
- When drafting your workshop proposal description, consider that this language could be used as the workshop description in conference materials
- Please be prepared to deliver your presentation anytime between August 20-22
- Please note: TLPI is generally unable to provide time or travel compensation. However, if attendance is otherwise impossible, TLPI will explore travel assistance where feasible. Presenters will be expected to pay for their own travel expenses. Grant funds should be used whenever possible to fund travel.
