Now Accepting Workshop Proposals: Southwest Veterans Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Training

 

The Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI), in partnership with the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP), Justice for Vets (JFV), and the American Indian and Alaska Native Addiction Technology Transfer Center are jointly hosting the:

Southwest Veterans Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Training

Tribal Veteran Healing to Wellness Courts are restorative justice dockets established to respond to the offenses and treatment needs of veterans who are diagnosed with substance abuse. They are managed by a multidisciplinary team familiar with the unique experience and issues of Native veterans. They can operate as stand-alone dockets or as part of a more general Healing to Wellness Court.

Calling all Tribal Veteran Healing to Wellness Court practitioners, training and technical assistance providers, researchers, scholars, and experts in the field. You are invited to submit a workshop proposal to present at the Southwest Veterans Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Training. Share your expertise, experience, and/or research with the key movers and shakers of the Tribal Veteran Wellness Court field. 

The Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) is soliciting workshop proposals that present the best practices in tribal justice, collaboration, and service delivery that enhance the capacity for Tribal Veteran Healing to Wellness Courts and serve tribal veterans. TLPI will accept sessions that cover a wide range of topics. We encourage proposals that detail innovative practices; specific how-to guidance; historical and combat trauma; special considerations for female Native veterans; military cultural competency; the integration of custom, tradition or holistic healing into the Tribal Veteran Healing to Wellness Court; screenings, assessment tools, and evidence-based practices that serve Native Veteran populations; tribal veteran resources; suicide awareness and prevention; and planning guidance. Please visit our past Tribal Veteran Symposium for a sampling of Tribal Veteran Healing to Wellness Court topics and materials. 

Selection Criteria: Workshop proposals will be selected based on their relevance to the field; engaging format; subject-matter expertise and training experience of the presenters; and supplemental materials.

  • Workshops will be 1.25 hours (75 minutes).
  • Workshops can have 1-3 presenters.
  • All materials will be posted on www.WellnessCourts.org for attendees to access prior to, during, and subsequent to the training. Presenters should inform TLPI staff no later than March 15, 2020 if they do not wish to have their materials accessible online. Presenters will be expected to pay for their own travel expenses. When drafting your workshop proposal description, consider that this language could be used as the workshop description in conference materials.

TLPI is generally unable to provide time or travel compensation. However, if attendance is otherwise impossible, TLPI will explore travel assistance where feasible.

The Southwest Veterans Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Training is a free training and all presentation materials will be provided to attendees for free.
