Case Management Practices for Tribal Probation Personnel: Skill Building Training

The Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice has awarded funds to the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) to further develop the workforce of tribal justice personnel working with alcohol/substance abusing offenders under community supervision. During this project, CSG/APPA will work in partnership with The Vera Institute of Justice and the Center for Strength-Based Strategies to develop a blended-learning training. Participants are required to complete online lessons prior to the on-site training event. Once on-site, participants will be engaged in 2 ½ days of skill-building activities designed to provide practice and coaching on the training topics:

  • Family Support Approach for Community Supervision
    Margaret diZerega, Vera Institute of Justice, Family Justice Program
  • Motivational Interviewing
    Todd Roberts, Center for Strength-Based Strategies
  • Strategies for Case Planning
    Kimberly Cobb, American Probation & Parole Association

To date, this training has been delivered 5 times (Phoenix, AZ, Appleton, WI, Billings, MT, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Rapid City, SD Ft. Lauderdale, FL).
