In recognition of Veterans Day 2021, and to honor tribal service members, the Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) is pleased to host two Tribal Veterans Treatment Court virtual events. Scheduled events will include experts in the Veterans Treatment field, including representatives from active Tribal Veterans Court programs.

Veterans Court Implementation 101 Panel and Yurok Tribe Veterans Healing to Wellness Court Program Spotlight

Workshop Description: Want to find out how to implement tribal-veteran specific programming in your treatment court? Tribal veterans treatment courts target the underlying causes of veterans' criminal behavior in a culturally appropriate and holistic fashion. This 90-minute workshop will include an overview of how your program can best serve the needs of tribal veterans in treatment court settings. Presenters will share their unique perspectives on how to develop and enhance veteran specific services and clarify key considerations to help attendees maximize the effectiveness of their own programming for tribal veteran participants. This session will also feature how the Yurok tribe has implemented programming to assist tribal veterans.

Addressing Trauma with Tradition and Humor -Tribal Veterans Perspectives 

Workshop Description: Tribal veterans participating in wellness court programs hold distinct cultural and personal identities that should be individually addressed by Tribal Wellness Court team members. This 90-minute workshop will explore the therapeutic value of tradition and humor in a Tribal Veterans Court context. Presenters will discuss the tribal warrior tradition, including the role traditional activities and culture play in treatment. Presenters will also go over a discussion of the therapeutic value of humor, unique to tribal veterans in treatment settings.
