Virtual Indian Country Victim Assistance Training Program

September 27-30, 2021

The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Office of Justice Services (OJS) announces the virtual academy "The Indian Country Victim Assistance Training Program" (ICVATP) developed and offered for new tribal victim advocates working in or for American Indian or Alaska Native tribal victim assistance programs. The target audience is aimed at tribal victim advocates with three years or less experience. The goal of the ICVATP virtual academy is to assist tribal programs in the development of comprehensive skill-based advocates by enhancing their knowledge, skills, and abilities to work in the field of victim services. It is anticipated that participants will learn the history of victimization and historical trauma as it relates to Indian Country, the role of a victim advocate, gain basic but critical victim advocacy skills, partnership development, and Self-Care techniques.
