From Vision to Action: Starting a Family Healing to Wellness Court That Works
- Someh Lewis, Program Association, Program Associate, Center for Children and Family Futures
- Sean Couch, Senior Program Associate, Center for Children and Family Futures
Webinar Description: Healing to wellness courts often focus on the specific needs of adult participants. Healing one person in isolation may not be effective if the family and community system remains unhealthy or unsupported. By involving the family, healing to wellness courts improve outcomes for individuals, strengthen families, and honor community healing. Many Tribes have expressed an interest in partnering with child welfare partners to heal entire families while maintaining their Tribe’s children in their homes and in their communities. This session will introduce strategies to develop a track or an entirely new Family Healing to Wellness Court to improve individual outcomes and strengthen families. Attendees will learn about identifying needs, collaborating with new family-focused partners, and meeting the needs of all family members.

Why Values Matter: Using the Collaborative Values Inventory to Improve Services for Families
- Someh Lewis, Program Association, Program Associate, Center for Children and Family Futures
- Sean Couch, Senior Program Associate, Center for Children and Family Futures
Webinar Description: The subject of how substance use and mental health disorder affects a person’s ability to parent is value laden. Different people bring vastly different outlooks and perspectives to this issue based on factors like professional training and experience, personal background, and the philosophy of the agency or organization in which they are employed. These differing perspectives can create barriers to working together, and all too often, collaborative teams carry out their work without discussing these differences. Children and Family Futures and the Tribal Law and Policy Institute developed the Indian Country Collaborative Values Inventory (IC-CVI) to help teams overcome these barriers. The IC-CVI assesses differences in culture, values and worldview, communication styles, and understandings about family and community. This session will describe the IC-CVI, provide specific examples of how the tool has been used, and give attendees an opportunity to use the tool live. Presenters will facilitate a discussion about how the tool can be used to overcome differences in beliefs and improve services and supports for families.
